VirtuOperant
VirtuOperant is a free, open-source software built in Python to make human-operant research accessible, reliable, and easy to run. Designed with the rigor of an operant chamber but tailored for computer use, it allows you to:
Configure up to four moving response buttons with customizable stimuli.
Add an alternative drawing activity as a built-in competing response.
Program common reinforcement and punishment schedules (FR, VR, FI, VI, NCR, and response cost).
Deliver visual and auditory feedback correlated with reinforcement or punishment.
Automatically generate cumulative records, response-rate graphs, and Excel data exports for each session.
VirtuOperant has been validated to ensure that its reinforcement schedules and dependent-variable measures perform exactly as programmed, reducing instrumentation threats and making results trustworthy. Because it runs locally, once installed it works without an internet connection and is compatible across operating systems.
Whether you are running translational studies, classroom demonstrations, or pilot projects, VirtuOperant gives you a dependable way to implement and visualize operant principles in real time.
